Adam Shay, CPA, PLLC

by Ian Oeschger on January 11, 2010

I believe strongly in giving back to the community- that is what makes an area a community. I visited the Wilmington area several times and was drawn to it because of its beauty and climate. I was fortunate enough to have the financial freedom to move here without a job secured. Since there weren’t a lot of decent paying jobs in my field, that really was my best option.

After living here for a short while, I quickly learned that others love the area, too, but are either under financial pressure because they are underemployed or are forced to leave the area because of a lack of employment options. I believe that with the right leadership and vision, high-quality, well paying, and intellectually challenging jobs can be developed in the area.

I have also been severely disappointed with what elected officials and business leaders feel are beneficial jobs and industries for the area.

Information: I consider myself both a business man and environmentalist. My environmental side comes from my love of the outdoors- the ocean, mountains, and rivers. I have a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. in Finance/Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland. My various career endeavors have taken me from information technology development and design to accounting and small business management and ownership.

I am actively involved in several community organizations. I am currently Treasurer and an Executive Board Member of the Cape Fear Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. I am also on the Steering Committee of Getting Connected, a grassroots organization focused on bringing bike / multi-use paths to the Middle Sound Loop Road area. I am also an active member of Wrightsville United Methodist Church.

I am married to my wife Sarah and we have a great dog named TJ. The rest of my immediate family (brother, parents, and grandmother) also live in the Wilmington area. I spend my spare time with my family, renovating my house, and outdoors (preferably on the water).
